Former Chicago Fire standout and U.S. international midfielder Chris Armas said Friday that he has interviewed for an assistant coaching position with the Red Bulls.
Washington Post soccer writer Steve Goff, in his blog, Soccer Insider, originally wrote Friday that Armas had interviewed with the MLS club (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider).
"I thought it went well," Armas said told BigAppleSoccer.com when he was reached at his Long Island home Friday afternoon.
New Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio, managing director Marc de Grandpre and technical director Jeff Agoos also attended the interview.
"It was nice to get to meet some of them," Armas said.
Armas said they would get back to him, but he hasn't heard from anyone yet.
Armas has been advising the the Fire on their search for a new coach.
He could become a hot commodity if the new Fire coach wants him there because Armas is one of the most respected players in the league, having been named to the MLS Best XI five times and playing 66 times for the U.S. National Team.
He said he has been told "to keep my mind open because the new head coach might want me there."
According to sources, Chicago is down to three candidates -- long-time Fire assistant coach Denis Hamlet, John Spencer and Mike Jeffries.
