Adelphi University freshman Issa Tall has been named the Atlantic Soccer Conference player of the year after a vote by the league's head coaches.
Howard University freshman Phillip Borde was named rookie of the year and Adelphi's Carlo Acquista earned coach of the year honors for the second year in a row.
Adelphi placed six players on the two All-Conference teams, including four first-team honors. The New Jersey Institute of Technology had five members on the two teams, followed by Houston Baptist University and Longwood University with four players each and Howard with three members. Howard placed a league-high four members on the ASC All-Academic Team.
Tall, a freshman from Mulhouse, France, was a unanimous selection for player of the year honors. He led the league with 14 goals in 16 games and ranks second nationally with 0.88 goals per game. Tall was named the ASC player of the week four times and was the Bigapplesoccer.com player of the week twice. He also earned a spot on the collegesoccernews.com national team of the week. Tall ranks seventh nationally with 1.81 points per game.
Borde, a freshman midfielder from Ocoee, Fla., was a unanimous selection for rookie of the year, earning four points as coaches could not vote for their own players. Borde scored three goals with four assists for 10 points in 17 games. He led the team in goals, assists, game-winning goals, shots, shots on goal and points. He earned ASC rookie of the week honors once during the season.
Acquista earned coach of the year honors after leading Adelphi to a 11-2-4 record, including a 2-1-1 mark in the conference play. Another unanimous selection, he has guided the Panthers to a .765 winning percentage, which ranks 13th nationally.
