DRAMA IN QUEENS
Baruch rallies for a 3-2 OT win over Medgar Evers
QUEENS, N.Y. -- Baruch College defeated Medgar Evers College in dramatic fashion, tying the match late in regulation and scoring the extratime winner for a 3-2 victory in a City University of New York Athletic Conference match at the Met Oval Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats started strong with Colby Aranibar finding the back of the net in the 15th minute off assists by William Rosales and Michael Kaniatyn. Rosales started the scoring play from the left wing with a pass to Kaniatyn, who slotted the ball to an open Aranibar from the top of the box for the goal.
The Cougars scored 10 minutes later to tie the contest and took a 2-1 lead in the 61st minute.
The Bearcats kept pounding the Cougars' defense for the tying goal and their effort was rewarded in the 89th minute as a Jaime Zurro corner kick found Dortion Alipaj for a header for a 2-2 tie.
Both teams had scoring chances in the first extratime, but the Bearcats made it count in the second extra period with Kassall Greene scoring the winner off another corner kick assist from Zurro.
Baruch goalkeeper Xavier Carrillo recorded four saves, including one late in the match to keep the Cougars from their third goal.
The Bearcats return to action against Hunter College in a CUNYAC home game at Randall's Island Field #10 Wednesday at 6 p.m.
