FINISHING ON A LOSING NOTE
FDU men edged by Sacred Heart, 2-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men fell to Sacred Heart, 2-1, in their Northeast Conference season finale at Campus Field Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers (2-12-1, 1-6-0) scored a first-half goal and answered with the game-winner only minutes after the Knights (2-12-3, 0-5-2) tied the match in the second half.
Sacred Heart jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Shaquille Saunchez in the 33rd minute.
In the 52nd minute, Jorge de la Bandera sent a cross into the 18-yard box that was headed in by freshman Ahu Obhakhan for the tying goal. The score was the first of the season for Obhakhan and the assist was the first for de la Bandera.
Sacred Heart's Matt Manzo found the net in the 58th minute to put the Pioneers back in front, 2-1. The Pioneer defense protected the lead over the final 32 minutes.
The Pioneers held a 25-13 advantage in shots and a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Weigner posted 10 saves. Sacred Heart also earned 11 corner kick compared to the Knights' two.
