FDU men blank Howard, 4-0
TEANECK,N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men earned their first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over Howard at University Stadium this week.
The Knights (1-1) struck with their first goal of the season in the seventh minute. Junior Casey Abelein headed a cross from freshman Cristian Nunez that senior Enver Caymaz buried.
Later in the first half, sophomore Javen Palmer scored on a 15-yard strike off a pass from sophomore Patrick Nuss.
The FDU defense prevented the Bison (0-2) from registering a shot on goal in the second half.
"I thought we played, I thought we were dangerous in attack," head coach Seth Roland said. "We were creative, we were pretty sharp and we finished reasonably well. Defensively we were solid and contained what can be an explosive Howard team.
"I thought everyone put a lot of pressure on them defensively and didn't give [Howard[ a lot of time or space. Everyone defended well, our back four was solid."
The Knights extended their lead on the hour with sophomore Ahu Obhakhan knocking in a loose ball after a corner kick by Nuss. Abelein (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen) picked up his second assist.
FDU capped it with a goal by Wojciech Piwowarczyk in the 89th minute. Sophomore Leo Dalesandro placed a shot on goal and Piwowarczyk used his body to redirect the rebound into the net.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Ferreira made one save as he posted his first career shutout.
