Hofstra's Holland, Hawkins earn NSCAA regional honors
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University seniors midfielder Joseph Holland and defender Harri Hawkins were named to National Soccer Coaches Association of American All-Midwest Region teams.
Holland earned a first-team nod while Hawkins was named to the third team.
After earning NSCAA All-Region and All-America honors in 2015, Holland continued to be an integral part of the Pride’s success this season in spite of being heavily targeted by most opponents’ defensive schemes. The London, England, native recorded three goals and eight assists for 14 points, while also improving his defensive game. He appeared in all 18 games, starting 17 and amassing 1,511 minutes.
Hawkins led a backline that produced a stellar defensive campaign, helping the team to five shutouts, including three to open Colonial Athletic Association play. Over that three-game span, the Cambridge, England, native helped the Pride allow two shots on goal. Hawkins started all 18 games for Hofstra in 2016 and played at least 80 minutes on 17 occasions.
With Holland’s first-team honor, he will be eligible for NSCAA All-America selection. The organization will announce All-America teams Friday.
