Dear Joe,

Although we never had the chance to meet, Iíd like to thank you. In 1962, you co-founded the Oceanside United Soccer Club. You may not have known it then, but the club has impacted countless lives of those who met you and those like me who didnít. For the past 20 years I have grown up in the soccer club, from playing intramural to travel to now the menís league. I now dedicate my time giving back by assisting with coaching an Under-14 team.

Although not technically local, I was raised and still reside in Island Park, but pulling on anything with the Oceanside United badge instilled a sense of pride in me. It was always a club I felt privileged to represent and keep that in mind today. Through the coaches who have mentored me, the players I have played with and now coach, it is all thanks to you and your foresight to bring a club to the area.

It hasnít been just the moments on the field and now the ones on the sideline that I will only cherish. The club helped me when it was time for me to go to college as well, awarding me with a scholarship, mostly for my longevity in the club. Even attending a college in Pennsylvania, where I played all four years, didnít loosen any affinity with the club you started so many years ago, by returning to represent the club in the summer, which I will again come this June.

What you started when the first Oceanside United Soccer Club took the field was a legacy that has affected so many lives. It has shaped many young boys and girls into the adults they are today and continues to do that to this day.

Soccer will forever remain my greatest passion and although Iíve traveled to London on a few occasions to watch my favorite club Arsenal play, Oceanside United will always be the one closest to my heart. For the many memories I have made wearing the orange and blue for the Oceanside United Soccer Club, Iíd again like to thank you.
