Red Bulls need players and they need them quickly

Bill Balduino is a long-time Red Bulls fan.

At the risk of being repetitious and obviously disagreeing with (a).others that contribute to this column and (b). Shep Messing, who Thursday night complemented several players and specifically, the duo playing outside midfield --- the Red Bulls need players and they need them quickly.

I am not one to accept that while on the road you go for a tie and then simply protect your home field with a win. This team needs to learn how to be a threat regardless of whether home or away. There is no bite and no apparent leadership because it happens game after game. Thursday night was awful. Yes, the first half was scoreless but come on – the Red Bulls played lousy soccer. To come off and rationalize the environment, the playing conditions etc. is ridiculous.

At this point, this team is no better than a .500 club. The Red Bulls have continuously lost to teams with lesser quality individual talent and excuses can abound but the reality is the team needs players.

Our outside midfielders have their high work rate but neither is a threat to do anything but play defense. They can’t cross a ball and get lost in the attacking third. Neither possesses the speed to even be disruptive coming forward. They are solid citizens that belong as key backups ON THE BENCH.
Please, can we get two wide midfielders?

Roy Miller – like him or not – he comes forward and causes problems for opposing teams. Connor Lade. I like his attitude and drive, but he lost the ball on every overlap last night and then put the team in a scramble to cover for him losing the ball in the attacking third. The Red Bulls need a starting back.

Fabian Espindola and Peguy Luyindula -- neither is an appropriate partner for Thierry Henry. Both were lost last night again and at least Luyindula puts himself in a position to score but they both lack the speed to create the diagonal runs that everyone is screaming about.

Folks we need help quickly is this team is going to threaten to do anything but underachieve.
