I have been a Metro/Red Bull fan since the beginning. I was in the stands at Giants Stadium when the MetroStars announced their existence to the world by scoring an own goal in the 90th minute to lose to New England 1-0. A harbinger of things to come for this self-destructive franchise.
But the last two years were a sheer pleasure. Never mind the trophy and the playoff run, they were an exciting team to watch that played stylish football.
And then they went for the self-destruct button again. Instead of Nicola Caricola's own goal, this time it involved bringing in an inexperienced guy with no track record of success at any level to run the team.
After only a couple of weeks on the job he fires a Red Bulls legend (who has both experience and a successful track record) and alienates his entire customer base. Apparently he doesn't need to listen to his customers, he'll instead be guided by arrogance. Good luck.
