MEXICAN LEAGUE APERTURA
Match Day 14 roundup

Queretaro 3, America 2
Camilo Sanvezzo's second goal of the match, in the 90th minute, gave shorthanded Queretaro a 3-2 win over table-topping Club America Friday at Estadio La Corregidora.

Sanvezzo staked the Gallos Blancos (5-3-6, 18 pts) to a 1-0 lead off Mario Osuna's assist in the 25th minute, then led the counterattack that sprung William Fernando Da Silva to make the score 2-0 in the 44th. Queretaro went down a man in the 51st minute, when defender Ricardo Osorio received his second yellow card and was sent off.

After the ejection, the Aguilas (98-2-3, 29 pts) mounted a furious comeback, knotting the score on goals by Oribe Peralta in the 66th minute and Luis Mendoza in the 77th. Peralta took advantage of a defensive error, and Mendoza scored off a sharp volley set up by Michael Arroyo's left-side cross.

Santos Laguna 1, Pumas 1
Santos Laguna and Pumas traded goals within a two-minute span of the second half on their way to a 1-1 draw Friday at Estadio TSM Corona.

Javier Orozco broke the ice for the Guerreros (4-6-4, 18 pts) in the 78th minute, tapping in a shot from close range, but Daniel Luduena responded for UNAM (4-5-5, 17 pts) in the 80th, with his 100th goal in Mexican soccer. The equalizer came ten minutes after Pumas netminder Alejandro Palacios was sent off for fouling Djaniny in the box to deny a goal-scoring opportunity.

Cruz Azul 3, Morelia 1
Mariano Pavone led the way with two goals as Cruz Azul defeated Morelia 3-1 Saturday at Estadio Azul.

Pavone opened the scoring in the tenth minute, spinning around a defender before slotting a shot inside the left corner. Carlos Guzman equalized for the Rayados (7-3-3, 24 pts) from distance in the 39th, and it took La Maquina (5-4-5, 19 pts) until the second half to put things away. Christian Gimenez netted the game-winner from long range in the 67th minute, and Pavone completed his brace in the 72nd, with a free kick from the top of the arc.

Jaguares 2, Veracruz 1
Jaguares edged Veracruz 2-1 Saturday at Estadio Luis Pirata Fuentes.

Diego De La Torre gave Chiapas (5-6-3, 21 pts) a 1-0 lead from the edge of the penalty area in the 34th minute. Christian Borja leveled the score for the Tiburones (3-5-6, 14 pts) in the second minute after entering the game at halftime, and the deadlock held until the 80th minute, when Adrian Marin connected for the game-winner.

Monterrey 2, Tigres 2
Monterrey came up with two second-half goals to rally to a 2-2 draw with Tigres Saturday at Estadio Tecnologico.

Tigres (6-6-2, 24 pts) led 2-0 at the intermission, after Joffre Guerron latched onto a poorly cleared ball in the 25th minute and Herculez Gomez put away a bal served by Guido Pizarro in the 40th. Jesus Zavala started the Rayados' comeback with a 53rd-minute header, and Luis Madrigal leveled the score in the 86th.

The draw leaves Monterrey in fifth place at 7-3-3 (24 pts).

Pachuca 0, Leones Negros 0
Pachuca and Leones Negros played to a scoreless draw Saturday at Estadio Hidalgo.

Neither team had an abundance of chances. U de G's Fidel Martinez forced netminder Oscar Perez into a clutch save in the first half, and Matias Alustiza squandered the Tuzos' best chance by sending an open 80th-minute shot into the stands behind the goal.

The result leaves Pachuca in seventh place at 6-3-5 and 21 points. Leones Negros are 16th on the table at 2-6-6 (12).

Atlas 2, Puebla 1
Atlas rallied to a 2-1 win over Puebla Saturday at Estadio Jalisco.

Puebla's John Pajoy opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a poorly-played clearance by the Zorros defense. Rodrigo Millar's 43rd-minute goal from the center of the penalty area sent the teams into the intermission tied 1-1, and Martin Barragan came off the bench to seal the win in the 73rd.

The result left the 8-3-3 Zorros two points behind first-place America with 27, and Puebla well back in the standings at 2-7-5 (13).

Leon 3, Toluca 2
Leon outdueled Toluca 3-2 Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez.

Mauro Boselli gave the tenth-place Esmeraldas (6-0-8, 18 pts) a 1-0 lead with a 21st-minute header. Pablo Velasquez equalized from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, after Leon defender Ignacio Gonzalez fouled Edgar Benitez, and the deadlock lasted through the intermission.

Elias Hernandez restored Leon's lead with a well-placed free kick in the 49th minute, and Miguel Sabah's 65th-minute goal provided enough of a cushion to preserve the win despite an 87th-minute strike by Toluca's Erbin Trejo.

The Diablos Rojos are third in the standings at 7-4-3 and 25 points.

Chivas 3, Tijuana 3
Jair Pereira scored in the 90th minute to lift Chivas de Guadalajara (2-5-6, 11 pts) into a 3-3 tie with Tijuana Sunday at Estadio Omnilife.

The Herd's Omar Bravo and Xolos' Alfredo Moreno traded braces, Bravo scoring in the 35th and 44th minutes, first with a header and then after collecting a loose ball, and Moreno connecting in the 23rd and 54th minutes. Dario Benedetto's 64th-minute goal gave Tijuana (3-8-3, 17 pts) a 3-2 lead that they ultimately could not protect. Pereira knotted the score with a header.
