Liguilla semifinals first leg roundup
Pumas 3, America 0
Top-seeded Pumas took a giant step toward the Gran Final with a 3-0 semifinal road win over shorthanded Club America Thursday at Estadio Azteca.
All three goals were scored in a 16-minute span of the second half, starting with Ismael Sosa's game-winner off a centering pass from Fidel Martinez in the 62nd minute. Gerardo Alcoba made the score 2-0 with a hard left-footer in the 74th, and Eduardo Herrera piled on with a third away goal four minutes later. Sosa got the assist.
The score might have been even more lopsided had Matias Britos not had an apparent goal in the 17th minute called back for offside.
The Aguilas played the final 38 minutes of the match shorthanded, and finished with nine men on the field. Defender Pablo Aguilar was the first to be sent off, in the 52nd minute. In the 64th, midfielder Miguel Samudio also and was ejected. Both players had received two yellow cards.
Pumas host the second leg on Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
Tigres 0, Toluca 0
Tigres and Toluca opened their Liguilla semifinal set with a scoreless draw Thursday at Estadio Universitario.
Tigres had the best of the chances, with Andre-Pierre Gignac hitting the crossbar with a header in the 26th minute, and Juninho teeing up from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, only to see his shot saved by 'keeper Alfredo Talavera.
Second-seeded Toluca will host the winner-take-all second leg Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez.
