Gabriel Penalba converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to lift Veracruz (1-6-3, 9 pts) to their first win of the season, 3-2 over Atlas Friday at Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente.

The teams traded goals for much of the match, starting with a long right-footed strike by Arturo Gonzalez that grazed the post on its way past netminder Sergio Garcia to put the Zorros (2-2-6, 8) on the board in the 33rd minute. Horacio Cervantes pushed a loose ball into the net to level the score seconds before halftime.

Atlas pulled ahead once more when Dieter Villalpando scored from a sharp angle in the 59th minute, but the lead lasted only ten minutes before Enrique Esqueda came off the bench to score the 2-2 equalizer for the Tiburones Rojos.

Cruz Azul 1, Puebla 1
Cruz Azul and Puebla traded goals on their way to a 1-1 draw Saturday at Estadio Azul.

Christian Gimenez staked La Maquina (3-6-1, 15 pts) to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, faking his way past two defenders and banking his shot off a third to beat netminder Cristian Campestrini. Matias Alustiza salvaged the point for Puebla (3-5-2, 14) in the 71st with a left-footer from the top of the arc.

Tigres 0, Pumas 0

After a scoreless first half, Darwin Quintero broke the ice for the Aguilas (5-3-2, 18 pts) with a shot to the upper right corner in the 49th minute. Oribe Peralta controlled Rubens Sambueza's pass back from the left end line and made the score 2-0 in the 60th minute, giving America enough of a cushion to prevail despite Carlos Pena's 73rd-minute goal for Chivas.
