LIGA MX CLAUSURA
Liguilla quarterfinals - Second Leg roundup
#8 Tigres 2, #1 Monterrey 1 (Monterrey advances, 4-3)
Top-seeded Monterrey advanced to the Liguilla semifinals despite Saturday's 2-1 second leg loss to #8 Tigres at Estadio BBVA Bancomer.
Tigres seized the early lead on a header by Jesus Duenas in the 11th minute and rebound strike by Rafael Sobis in the 27th, and would have taken the series on the away goals tiebreaker had the score held.
Cesar Montes saved the day for the Rayados in the 70th, two minutes after UANL defender Juninho received his second yellow card and was sent off. Montes snagged the rebound after 'keeper Nahuel Guzman turned away a shot by Rogelio Funes Mori.
The Rayados will face #4 Club America in the semifinals.
#3 Leon 4, #6 Morelia 1 (Leon advances 5-2)
#3 Leon roared into the Liguilla semifinals with a 4-1 second leg win over #6 Morelia Saturday at Estadio Nou Camp.
Luis Montes opened the scoring for the Esmeraldas, slipping a shot inside the post in the 34th minute. Mauro Boselli netted the game-winner seconds after the intermission, and Elias Hernandez added the first insurance goal in the 61st before dishing off to Montes for the 85th-minute capper.
Rodrigo Millar closed things out for Monarcas off a rebound in the 89th minute.
Leon will face #2 Pachuca in the semifinals.
#4 America 2, #5 Chivas 1 (America advances, 2-1)
Fourth-seeded Club America advanced to the Liguilla semifinals with a 2-1 win over #5 Chivas de Guadalajara in Sunday's winner-take-all second leg at Estadio Azteca.
The teams played to a scoreless first-leg draw on Thursday.
Orbelin Pineda gave Chivas a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute -- five minutes after Jair Pereira rattled the America crossbar with a header --but let the Aguilas back into the game by conceding a penalty kick that was converted by Osvaldo Martinez in the 27th.
Oribe Peralta sent America through to the second round with the 64th-minute clincher. Darwin Quintero, who was fouled to send Martinez to the spot, set the table for Peralta with a perfectly-placed service.
The Aguilas will face top-seeded Monterrey in the semifinals.
#2 Pachuca 3, #7 Santos Laguna 2 (Pachuca advances 4-3)
#2 seed Pachuca advanced to the Liguilla semifinals with Sunday's 3-2 semifinal win over #7 Santos Laguna at Estadio Hidalgo.
Jonathan Urretaviscaya paced the Tuzos with two goals, in the 10th and 57th minutes, and the game-winning assist. Hirving Lozano set up the first with a dominating solo run past two defenders, and Urretaviscaya buried a free kick for the second. Franco Jara netted the game-winner in the 81st, off Urretaviscaya's pass into the six-yard box.
Andres Renteria scored on a header in the 15th minute to send the Guerreros into halftime level at 1-1 for Sunday and 2-2 on aggregate, but Jara had delivered the series to Pachuca four minutes before Diego Gonzalez closed out the scoring for Santos.
The Tuzos will face third-seeded Leon in the semifinals.
