COSMOS WRAP UP SEASON
Eight months of activity
After eight months of activity, the Cosmos' season has come to an end. The team, champions of the North American Soccer League, wrapped
up their post-season tour last weekend against Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, and though that game itself was a loss, the tour was both historic and successful.

Chinaglia scores in 1-1 draw
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ---The New York Cosmos and the People’s Republic of China traded rapid-fire goals before settling for a 1-1 draw Saturday before a Giants Stadium crowd of 33,712.

Cosmos to face People's Republic team Oct. 8
The North American Soccer League champion Cosmos will play a representative team of the People's Republic of China in a specially arranged encounter at Giants Stadium on October 8. The announcement of the international exhibition contest was made jointly today by the Cosmos, the United States Soccer Federation and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

FAIRY TALE ENDING
Cosmos give Pele a championship sendoff
PORTLAND, Ore.—The great Pele might not have scored in the New York Cosmos’ 2-1 Soccer Bowl win over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, but it was his day all the same. After the final whistle blew and the trophy was presented, it was Pele that the new champions hoisted onto their shoulders and carried off to the cheers of a standing-room crowd of 41,270 at Civic Stadium.

Cosmos roll over Rochester, 4-1
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The New York Cosmos easily cleared their last hurdle before Soccer Bowl ’77, dominating the Rochester Lancers 4-1 Wednesday before 73,669 deliriously drenched fans at Giants Stadium.

NY takes advantage of mistakes as Messing shines in semifinal win
Rochester, N.Y. -- The New York Cosmos took advantage of breakdowns in the Rochester Lancers defense to strike twice within a 3:30 span to register a 2-1 victory in the opening game of the two-match home-and-home playoff semifinals.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Giorgio Chinaglia tied the score with 6:43 left in regulation, and goalkeeper Shep Messing made two shootout saves to help the New York Cosmos sweep the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers out of the NASL playoffs 3-2 Wednesday night at Lockhart Stadium.

Cosmos blitz Strikers 8-3 in playoff opener
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—A North American Soccer League record crowd of 77,691 packed Giants Stadium on Sunday to watch the New York Cosmos rout the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers 8-2 in the opening game of the Eastern Division championship series.

Cosmos oust Rowdies from playoffs, 3-0
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—A rain-dampened crowd of 57,828 got their money’s worth Wednesday night at Giants Stadium. Pele scored two goals and Steve Hunt collected three assists as the New York Cosmos booted the Tampa Bay Rowdies out of the NASL playoffs by a 3-0 score.
