LI women overcome Magic with 2nd-half goals
Kim DeCesare struck twice in the second half to boost the Long Island Rough Riders to a 2-1 win over the New York Magic -- F.A. Euro in a W-League encounter on Saturday night. The Magic suffered its first loss of the season.
Long Island had the better of the play in the early going, but the Magic took the lead in the 34th minute. Looking to duplicate the Magic's victory against Long Island from a week prior, Sade Ayinde sent a low pass that found Brittany Pfaff. Pfaff turned and fired into the top-right corner out of the reach of goalkeeper Diana Poulin.
The Rough Riders hit back 11 minutes into the second half as DeCesare put away the rebound after Magic goalkeeper Charlotte McCormack could only parry a strong effort by Amanda Epstein.
DeCesare gave her side the lead four minutes later as she converted from the penalty spot after being brought down in the area by Candice Clark.
