Instead, he will be training with Manchester City in England, according to multiple reports out of the Central American country.
The Costa Rican international and New York City FC defender has caught the eye of Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, who decided to give the outside back an opportunity.
City also owns NYC FC, so having him train with the English Premier League should not have been any problem.
While the 22-year-old Matarrita is a regular on the Ticos side, playing in Copa America Centenario last year, his performances in Major League Soccer were quite uneven last season.
For example, he was responsible for both of Bradley Wright-Phillips' first-half goals off of corner kicks in the Red Bulls' 7-0 thrashing of City at Yankee Stadium May 21.
Costa Rica head coach Oscar Ramirez unveiled his 23-man roster Tuesday and Matarrita was not included.
The 5-9, 154-lb. Matarrita has made 17 appearances for the Costa Rican national side.
Copa Centroamericana is the qualifying competition for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
