Pilar, Argentina -- The Red Bulls made it two consecutive wins here by recording a 2-1 victory over River Plate at Mapuche Country Club on Thursday morning.

Midfielder Dane Richards (first half) and central defender Andrew Boyens (second half) supplied the offense and goalkeeper Jon Conway provided the defense with some late-match saves.

With the match only three minutes old, the Red Bulls drew first blood. Midfielder Khano Smith bolted down the left side and spotted an open Dane Richards, who fired home the goal.

River Plate equalized in the 33rd minute. Former D.C. United midfielder Marcelo Galladro sent the ball into the left corner. Rubens Sambueza then crossed the ball toward the middle. Left fullback and trialist Aklie Edwards slid in an attempt to clear the ball, but he accidentally deposited it into his own net past goalkeeper Danny Cepero.

Boyens, who hadn't scored last season, snapped the tie in the 73rd minute. Sinisa Ubiparipovic sent a corner kick toward the far right post. Boyens knocked it down and knocked home a left-footed shot into the right side of the net past goalkeeper Mario Vega.

Red Bulls captain and striker Juan Pablo Angel did not play because against his former Argentine team due to a contusion he suffered on his right knee in the 2-1 win at Velez Sarsfield on Tuesday. Angel, who watched from the sidelines, said he probably could have played, but decided to err on the side of caution.

The Red Bulls had their afternoon practice cancelled by coach Juan Carlos Osorio. They played an intense first half and tried more for possession in the second half.
