October 27, 2009 'PHENOMENAL FOR EVERYONE' Angel on if Bulls ever signed Henry
HARRISON, N.J. -- Imagine the potential dynamic pairing up top: Juan Pablo Angel and Thierry Henry at Red Bull Arena.
There have been reports emanating out of Spain that the agent of Henry, the Barcelona and French international star, is talking with the Red Bulls about joining the team next year.
Angel certainly wouldn't mind having a running mate of that caliber tormenting MLS defenders. Of course, the former Colombian internationals realizes Henry coming to the Red Bulls is far from reality. But it that didn’t stop him from talking about that possibility Tuesday.
"I mean, I don't want to get too excited," he said at Red Bull Arena. "But a player of his caliber would be an amazing addition, not just for this organization, but also for this league. You see the impact that for instance, David Beckham had. It is a kind of different media impact between Henry and David. He is a phenomenal player.
"He is arguably playing for the best team in the world. He's physically fit. He could give us another three, four years, easily. So it is phenomenal that you can attract a player like him. As I said, I don't want to get too excited. But eventually if it happens, I think it will be phenomenal for everyone here."
Red Bulls managing director Erik Stover would not comment on Henry.
"We can't comment on any player who is under contract," he said. "There's been a lot of reports about a lot of players. Sometimes I'm very surprised when I wake up and read the paper on who we're supposedly talking to."
