Mike Grella's availability for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals was put into question after he underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday.
The Red Bulls midfielder will miss from two to four weeks, the Major League Soccer team said Wednesday.
Dr. Riley Williams III performed the surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
New York will host the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first leg at Red Bull Arena Feb. 22. The second leg is March 2.
The Glen Cove, N.Y. native has accumulated 16 goals and 13 assists in 65 appearances since he joined the Red Bulls prior to the 2015 season. He played in two CCL games, not registering a point.
Grella is not the only midfielder who will miss CCL action.
FC Dallas midfielder Victor Ulloa will be out of action for a month after undergoing sports hernia surgery.
He will miss Dallas' quarterfinal series against Arabe Unido. The MLS club hosts the Panama side Feb. 23.
Ulloa played in three CCL group-stage matches.
