Red Bulls sign right back Bermudez on loan
HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls have added right back Michael Amir Murillo Bermudez on loan from San Francisco FC of Panama's Liga Panameña de Fútbol, the team announced Saturday.
"Michael is a player that we identified with our scouting network and have watched closely," Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch said. "He fits the way we want to play and will be a good addition to our group."
Murillo, 21, a native of Panama City, played for San Francisco's youth teams, and has totaled 42 appearances and three goals with the first team since 2014.
"I went down to see Michael play in person with our head scout, Rob Elliot, and we were impressed," Red Bulls assistant coach Denis Hamlett said. "After watching him play and speaking with him, we believe that Michael fits our club philosophy and we are glad to add him to our team for 2017."
Murillo has nine appearances and one goal for the Panama national team, making debut in a friendly against Nicaragua in March and performing in the Copa Centroamericana in January. Murillo made three appearances in the 2015-16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
