Red Bulls name Denis Hamlett to replace Ali Curtis as sporting director

HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls have named assistant coach Denis Hamlett to replace Ali Curtis as sporting director, the team announced Tuesday.

Hamlett will oversee the teamís sporting operations, including player acquisitions, scouting/support staffs and soccer operations budget. He will also oversee player development, including New York Red Bulls II, U-23 team and Red Bulls Academy.

"Denis has vast experience in Major League Soccer and an excellent understanding of our global philosophy," Red Bullsí Global Soccer head Oliver Mintzlaff said. "We are confident that Denis has the vision to further our goal of winning MLS Cup."

Hamlett, a Costa Rica native, has nearly 20 years of coaching experience, the last two years as top assistant to Jesse Marsch with the Red Bulls. Hamlett played for the Colorado Rapids in 1996 and coached the Chicago Fire to Eastern Conference finals appearances in 2007 and í08.
