Colombia replaces defender prior to USA Copa match

CHICAGO - The Colombian national team Monday replaced injured defender Oscar Murillo with defender Yerry Mina on its roster ahead of the side's Copa America Centenario match against the United States Friday.

The Copa America Centenario medical committee ruled that defender Oscar Murillo's injury was serious enough to prevent the player from taking part in the competition. Murillo will be replaced by defender Yerry Mina on the Colombia roster

Mina plays for Santa Fe in the Colombian First Division.

As per tournament regulations, a player listed on a team's final tournament roster may only be replaced in the event of serious injury up until 24 hours before his team's first match, after the Local Organizing Committee has received a detailed medical assessment and only after the acceptance by the tournament medical committee that the injury is sufficiently serious to prevent the player from taking part in the Competition.

Injury replacements must come from the preliminary 40-player roster.
