Red Bulls get 2 days rest before Open Cup
ORLANDO -- Just as the Red Bulls get back down to earth after their 2-0 win at Orlando City FC, they have to get right back up for the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open quarterfinal against the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday.
Sunday was a travel day and a day of rest of the club.
Monday is a day of preparation for the game.
And Tuesday is the match at Red Bull Arena at 4 p.m. ET.
Not too much time to catch their breath.
"Right now our minds are totally wrapped around Tuesday," Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch said. "Even in the locker room we said right now we need to switch to make sure mentally and physically we hydrate and get ready for a big game on Tuesday."
Midfielder Mike Grella, who tallied the insurance goal in injury time Saturday, will be among the players going through the recovery process, especially after playing in the heat and humidity.
"It's all about recovery how fast everyone recovers and gets ready for the game," he said. "We are an enthusiastic and energetic young group. No question we will be 100 percent ready for that game."
If the Red Bulls win, they will reach the semifinals.
They have reached the final only once -- in 2003, when Bob Bradley coached the team when it was called the MetroStars. The team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Chicago Fire at Yankee Stadium in the final.
