HANOVER, N.J. – Shaun Wright-Phillips may be close to seeing the pitch again after the Red Bulls midfielder was injured a couple of weeks ago.

Wright-Phillips was hurt 23 minutes into the team’s 1-0 win over the Rochester Rhinos a couple weeks ago in the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup in what was his first start of the season for the senior team. On Tuesday, Wright-Phillips trained and is looking recovered from his right hamstring injury.

The former English international is looking to be in the mix moving forward for the Red Bulls.

“Shaun is really close. He trained today, I think he should be available for selection by the weekend,” head coach Jesse Marsch said after training Tuesday.

It is unlikely that Wright-Phillips would be ready for the midweek Open Cup match at the Philadelphia Union. But he could be an interesting name to get some minutes this weekend as a loan player for the USL team or even Sunday at New York City FC in the Hudson River Derby match at Yankee Stadium.
