U.S. Open Cup title to be decided Sept. 13


The 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final between FC Dallas and the New England Revolution will be played at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, U.S. Soccer announced Friday.

The game, a rematch of the 2007 final, won by the Revolution at the stadium, then named Pizza Hut Park, will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and Univision Deportes Network for the second straight year.

New England used goals from Kei Kamara, Je-Vaughn Watson and Teal Bunbury to down the Chicago Fire, 3-1, in the semifinals Aug. 9. The next day, FC Dallas got late extra time goals from Matt Hedges and Victor Ulloa to defeat the host LA Galaxy, 2-1.

This marks the Revolutionís third appearance in the final. The Revolution lost to the Galaxy, 2-1, in extra time in 2001 in Fullerton, Calif., and defeated Dallas, 3-2, in í07.

The winning team will receive $250,000 and a berth in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions' League. The runner-up will earn $60,000.

FC Dallas earned the right to host the match in a July 21 draw.

The U.S. Open Cup has crowned champions for 102 consecutive years, dating from 1914.
