Pancyprian Freedoms vs. Greek Americans in USASA Open Cup tonight

In one of the most compelling amateur derbies and battle of former national champions, the New York Greek Americans will take on the Pancyprian Freedoms in a U.S. Adult Soccer Association Open Cup match Thursday night.

The rivals will meet at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, Queens at 9 p.m.

Both teams perform in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League.

The Pancyprian Freedoms won the Open Cup in 1980, 1982 and 1983 and have earned national championships in other competitions in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

The Greek Americans captured Open Cup crowns four times -- in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1974.
