Lloyd, Rapinoe return for USWNT training camp

CHICAGO -- Co-captain Carli Lloyd and midfielder Megan Rapinoe will return to the U.S. Women's National Team training camp roster in preparation for next month’s match against South Africa, coach Jill Ellis announced Thursday.

Lloyd missed two June matches against Japan with a knee injury. Rapinoe, recovering from ACL surgery, will be in camp for training and evaluation and will not play in the match.

The U.S. and South Africa will meet for the first time at Soldier Field in Chicago at 12 p.m. CT July 9 (FS1). This will be the USA's second-to-last match before departing for Brazil. The final Olympic send-off game will be against Costa Rica at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan., at 8 p.m. CT July 22 (ESPN).

"We're looking forward to finalizing our Olympic roster," Ellis said. "We have been evaluating players since our Victory Tour last year, so we are anticipating a great camp and finishing that process. It's exciting to play a new opponent and South Africa instantly has our respect for earning an Olympic berth from Africa."

Goalkeeper Hope Solo comes into the match with 99 career shutouts, on the verge of becoming the first goalkeeper in U.S. and world history to achieve 100 shutouts. Solo has nine shutouts in 10 wins this year.

The USA's Olympic roster will feature 18 players, 16 field players and two goalkeepers. The USA is 12-0-1 (47-4 goal differential) this year. The U.S. is undefeated in 11 matches in Chicago, but has not played at Soldier Field since 2007. The team has a 4-0-1 record at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., and is 6-0-0 at Soldier Field. The WNT's most recent visit to the Soldier Field resulted in a 6-1 victory against New Zealand on Aug. 12, 2007.
