USWNT adds two for Romania matches
CHICAGO -- Forward Jessica McDonald and defender Emily Menges will join the U.S. Women’s National Team for training camp in California in preparation matches against Romania, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday.
McDonald and Menges, earning their first senior team callups, will replace defenders Jaelene Hinkle (ankle) and Meghan Klingenberg (back) on the 24-player squad. The U.S.-Romania matches are set at Avaya Stadium in San Jose at 7 p.m. PT Nov. 10 (ESPN2) and at the StubHub Center in Carson at 6:30 p.m. PT Nov. 13 (FS1).
McDonald has Youth National Team experience with the U-17s, U-20s and U-23s. In 2007, she played under U.S. coach Jill Ellis on the U-20 WNT during the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil, the USA claiming the silver medal, falling to Brazil's senior squad in the final. McDonald scored against Paraguay and Argentina.
Menges, who played at the Albertson Fury, was called into camp with the U-23 WNT in 2013.
McDonald helped the Western New York Flash win the NWSL championship, starting 19 games and scoring 10 goals, second in the league and on the team behind NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner Lynn Williams. In the NWSL Championship game, McDonald provided the assist to Williams for a 124th-minute tying goal.
In her second pro season, Menges started 20 games and played every minute as the Potland Thorns won the NWSL Shield.
