Joining Lloyd were Melanie Behringer, who paced Germany to the women's gold medal at the Rio Summer Olympics, and Brazilian superstar Marta, a five-time winner of the award. Marta has made the final three 12 times in the past 13 years.
Behringer was fulcrum of the German attack as the country won its first Olympic women's gold medal.
Lloyd finished with 17 goals and 11 assists in 20 starts over 21 games for the national team.
She and the USA were eliminated in the Olympic quarterfinals by Sweden. Lloyd enjoyed a career year in 2015, when she won MVP honors as the Golden Ball winner of the Women's World Cup. The Americans won that tournament as Lloyd struck for a hat-trick in the final.
Marta was a key performer in Brazil's run to the semifinals, where it lost to Sweden.
