SAITAMA, Japan -- Substitute Chioma Ubogagu scored in extratime to boost the United States to a 2-1 triumph over North Korea in the quarterfinals of the Under-20 Women's World Cup on Friday.
Vanessa Di Bernardo scored for the Americans during regulation, while Kim Su Gyong did the same for the Asians.
Di Bernardo, the daughter of former New York Cosmos Angel Di Bernardo, lifted the U.S. into the lead in the 52nd minute as she scored off a spectacular 30-yard strike.
However Kim Su Gyong equalized on a clinical finish in the 75th minute.
In extratime, Ubagagu shook off her marker and headed home a Crystal Dunn cross in the 98th minute to give the Americans the lead and eventually the win.
Dunn, a Rockville Centre, N.Y. native, played for the Albertson Fury and Long Island Fury.
